Australian Frangipani: March 2022 update

A little update. This one has been in the pot for 3 years now, and it’s not growing much – it is a ‘dwarf form’, so will it grow? It is leafing though, so I’m thinking about it in a pot in a month.

It’s growing happily enough, with fresh leaves coming through:

At this angle, you can’t really see the leaves.

There’s a few problems with it though:

  • the branch on the low right above has a knob from the trimming of the last tree… I could perhaps carve for a better taper?
  • the bottom joint has 3 branches, one of which is not leafing (dead?), and which messes up the symmetry
  • it’s rather thin in profile… all branches are in one plane

I’m thinking this cut might improve the style:

This would leave a curve (which could be accented in the planting) with nothing on the inside, and all the outside going up.

I’d also have to deal with the knob from the triple joint. Aluminium tape is getting some buzz lately as good for helping bark heal over… maybe I’ll try that.
